Conference on Whole Body Vibration Injuries

Event
4th International Conference on Whole Body Vibration Injuries

Location
Montréal, Canada

Date
2 - 4 June 2009

WBVI

Main theme

This multi-disciplinary conference will provide a unique opportunity to exchange information on the potential injuries associated with exposure to whole-body vibration and mechanical shocks. Several studies have been conducted to quantify vibration exposures at work and to monitor the health of exposed populations. Laboratory studies have been performed to study the transmission of vibration to the body and monitor its effects. A range of mathematical models have also been constructed to represent our understanding of the responses of the body to whole-body vibration. There are now guides, standards and proposed legislations intended to protect workers from excessive exposure to whole-body vibration and mechanical shock. Seating standards have also been proposed to minimize the transmission of vibration and shock to the body. All these topics will be addressed as part of this conference, following the pattern that was initiated by creating this series of international conferences of which the first was held in Southampton, U.K. in 1997, the second in Sienne, Italy in 2000, and the third in Nancy, France in 2005.

ISMA 2008

Event
International Conference on Noise and Vibration Engineering

Location
Leuven, Belgium

Date
15-17 September 2008

ISMA 2008

Main theme

The 2008 Leuven Conference on Noise and Vibration Engineering will be held from September 15th till 17th in Leuven, Belgium. It is the 23rd international conference in a series of annual courses and biennial conferences on structural dynamics, modal analysis and noise and vibration engineering, organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.

The conference provides a forum for engineers, researchers and other professionals active in the field of modelling, analysing, testing and improving the noise and vibration characteristics of mechanical systems and civil structures. The conference combines expertise in the noise and vibration fields by stressing common measurement, modelling, analysis and control technologies. The meeting will provide a further impetus to the cross fertilisation of ideas in both areas. The focus of the conference is on experimental and numerical methods, with special attention to recent applications in vehicle and civil engineering. Fields with a strong interaction between noise and vibration behaviour will be stressed.

A special session is dedicated to MYMOSA on Motorcycle Dynamics. 4 presentations will be given on:

  • 3D model of a human for powered two-wheeled vehicles
  • Object-Oriented Modeling and Simulation of an ATV
  • Development of a Virtual Rider
  • A virtual motorcycle rider for closed-loop simulation of motorcycles

PISa SIM Workshop

Event

Joint PISa (Powered Two-wheeler Integrated Safety) and SIM (Safety in Motion) Workshop

Location
Bologna, Italy

Date
29 May 2008

Main theme

The event is an opportunity to present some key research issues in the area of Powered Two Wheelers (PTWs) safety systems, aimed at improving their overall performances. It is also a great opportunity for partners with different backgrounds (researchers, industrials, public authorities, EC representatives) for networking and discussing about PTWs’ safety.

The University of Florence and Piaggio will respectively present the first outcomes from the above mentioned research projects. A roundtable with authorities, industry and universities will close the workshop.

Transport Research Arena 2008

Event

Greener, Safer and Smarter road transport for Europe

Location
Ljubljana, Slovenia

Date
21-24 April 2008

TRA
Main theme
The objective of TRA 2008 is for you to forge new, productive partnerships across all transport sectors. The road transport industry is an innovative force in Europe; it is one of the largest R&D investors in Europe. Climate change, urban congestion and the increasing demand for people and freight transport challenge us to double our creativity to find adequate and innovative solutions.

What Europe needs for sustainable, safer and more efficient road transport will emerge from exchanges and teamwork between all the relevant stakeholders. TRA 2008 will respond to this need, by gathering an expected 1,500 industry and research managers, senior researchers, engineers and scientists, as well as representatives of local, regional and national public authorities across Europe and around the world.

The conference will be complemented by a major exhibition showcasing how recent and future road research and technological development in Europe is responding to the challenges of climate change, and offering new solutions in urban transport, in long distance transport and in traffic safety.
